Overview: This is the sixth of this series of six done on September 13, 1995 at the Dayton Answers In Genesis Seminar with Dr. Gary Parker and his wife, Mary. These interviews will maintain the verbal format with only changes to simplify repeats done in informal conversation. This interview will discuss what Dr. Parker feels are the best books on Creation science, Ron: There is a lot of information in our world today that didn't exist 20 or 30 years ago. If you had ten books, what would be your top ten books? And you might even mention your own along the way.
Note: We arrived at the air terminal after number eight, we'll have to find out the other two at another time.
Gary: The top ten books in creation - obviously number one would be "The Bible" itself. God's word has been just absolutely phenomenal in organizing the information that we have in the world around about us. It's a four part message-a beautiful world created by God, ruined by man; so we see creation and corruption; destroyed by the flood, a catastrophe; restored by Christ; and Ken sometimes likes to take Christ and then add the fifth C, consummation. Christ coming again to make all things new. And as we look at the information around about us, you know, we see the evidence of design, creation; we see the evidence of ruination, the effects of man's sin; we see the evidence of catastrophe; we see the evidence of restoration and our ministry of reconciliation that we have in Christ, in the consummation of all things and Christ's return and so that organizes so much information in that way.
My own book I can mention now, "Creation: The Facts of Life" looks at the information in biology in light of those points-creation, corruption, catastrophe, Christ and coming consummation.
Ken Ham's book, "The Lie" is so short and simple and direct, but it shows how important it is in all areas of life to build our thinking on what the Bible has to say, the authority of God's word. So that would be a primary source; and it has been used by God to really revitalize the churches.
The original "Genesis Flood" that started the modern creation movement that came out originally in 1961 is a vital piece of work, Whitcomb and Morris's book. And again, they not only did a super job with the science, but they explain that Biblical foundation so clearly and unmistakenly and relate it to God's world. That is still a classic.
Dr. Morris' commentary, "The Genesis Record," verse by verse through scripture, has been a tremendous impact and a tremendous encouragement to Christians regardless of the level of their scientific training.
I personally think the children's books have a fantastic impact. For one thing adults can understand them and for another thing it gets young people started on the right foot so they don't have to unlearn things. We praise the Lord for how God has used the "Dry Bones" book that has been translated into eight or nine languages. Students come up to me at meetings, you know, with this dog eared old copy, of that old "Dry Bones" and, you know, with the fire of God in their eyes; and it is just amazing to see how that has turned people toward God.
I am excited about Ken's new book "A is For Adam" in that light. [Ed. D is for Dinosaur is good choice also.]
"The Great Dinosaur Mystery" by Paul Taylor, that relates dinosaurs in the Bible and the historical and scientific evidence that really started, you know, the creationist boom of interest in dinosaurs and such great respect for the Bible and a tremendous amount of research that went into that, that we all depend on. It's a classic.
[At this point the interview concluded because we arrived at the airport for the Parker's trip home. I found this a wonderful interview. I hope you did also.] New interview in Sept
