by Dedrea Marita Holloway The Serenity Prayer |
Do you ever feel as if you are all alone? Do you ever feel as if no one understands you or no one cares? Everybody feels this way at sometime in their life, even adults. But you must remember that wherever you are you are never alone. Our Heavenly Father is always there. You can reach out and receive his help through prayer.
There is a prayer called The Serenity Prayer. It was written in 1926 by a man named Reinhold Neibuhr. Whenever you feel lonely or upset remember The Serenity Prayer. It goes like this:
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, Not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will.
That I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely
happy with Him forever in the next. Amen.
The first verse of The Serenity Prayer asks God to give us peace in knowing that some things in our lives we have no control over and therefore we cannot change them. We ask God to let us be brave and strong in changing the things we can, even if it is something that we do not think we can do or are scared to do. We also ask God to give us understanding to know what things we can change and what things we cannot change. Practice saying the Serenity Prayer and remember you are never alone.
